Meet Our Mayor and Council

The common council is the legislative branch of city government, while the mayor is the chief executive officer.  The mayor, by statute, is a member of the council, presides at its meetings and may vote in case of a tie.  The council, through its committees, may become involved in departmental operations.  The Council has four standing committees:  Finance (a committee of the whole), Public Safety, Public Works, and Health. Three alderpersons serve on each committee.  The mayor appoints and the council confirms the remaining committee and board members.   

The Plan Commission is more established, and is recognized in Wisconsin Statutes. The Business Improvement District Board, the Library Board, the Zoning Board of Appeals, the Parks and Recreation Committee and the Police Committee have operational and policy responsibilities.  

Residents may participate in city government by being appointed to one of these committees.  Please contact the mayor, an alderperson, or the city clerk for consideration.
